My name is Talen Tsigaris, and I'm a dancer from Ontario, Canada. I started dancing at the age of 7 and have trained in a variety of different styles over the years. A combination of gymnastics classes and watching my sister Cora dance inspired me to start dancing. In fact, I was really looking into more of a challenge in gymnastics, and that led me to try an Acro class for the first time.
For the past three years, I have been training with Elite Danceworx in Markham, Ontario. My training includes styles such as Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap and Acro – my favourites being Ballet and Contemporary. Dancing at Elite has allowed me to train with other boys and work with a variety of incredible Choreographers.
I have participated in many conventions and competitions since I started dancing. In 2015, I competed with Team Canada in Poland. In 2017, I took part at The Dance Awards for the first time and placed in the Top Ten. Last year, I was the Junior Male First Runner Up at The Dance Awards and was also part of the Beat Squad at DancerPalooza.
My family is very supportive of my love for dance. With their support, I am hoping to pursue a career as a Choreographer/Dancer. I want to travel the world and continue to do what I love most.
Like many other boy dancers, I have had experiences with bullying at school. Last year, I secured a spot in a local Arts and Media program where I am enrolled as a Dance Major. Being surrounded by many other art majors (including other boys who dance) has created a much more inviting school environment for me.
I continue to work hard, pushing myself, and always looking for new experiences.
